Travelling trade licence

If you work as a fairground operator, ‘itinerant trader’ or market stallholder – that is, if you offer your services or goods at constantly changing locations – you are operating a travelling trade. To do this, you need a travelling trade licence.
You must carry this with you whilst carrying out your work and present it to officials from the relevant local authority upon request. As an employer, you must provide employees in your business who have direct contact with customers without you being present, or who work at a location other than where you are based, with a duplicate or a certified copy of the itinerant trade licence.

If, as an EU citizen, you are only working across borders on a temporary basis, you do not need a travelling trade licence.

Anyone wishing to operate a travelling trade requires a licence (travelling trade licence). The itinerant trade licence may be issued with restrictions on its scope, for a limited period, and subject to conditions, insofar as this is necessary to protect the general public or consumers. The duties of the local public order authorities are carried out by the district offices, the municipalities not belonging to a district, the associations of municipalities, the co-administering municipalities and the cities independent of a district (§ 3 of the Public Order Authorities Act – OBG).
