Participation and involvement of children and young people
Section 19 "Participation and involvement of children and young people" of the local government constitution (BbgKVerf) obliges Brandenburg's local authorities to involve children and young people in all decisions that affect their interests.
Young people learn how to deal with a democratic system through youth participation.
In Rüdersdorf near Berlin, exciting projects and construction measures are also on the agenda for the coming years, for example a public play and exercise area, the design of the neighbourhood square, the construction of new after-school and daycare facilities and much more. The involvement of children and young people is an enrichment here.
Since February 2023, the participation of children and young people has been anchored in our main municipal statutes. The forms of participation and involvement are
- Project-related forms of participation, in particular through co-design in the context of transport and/or urban planning and new buildings that affect children and young people and school-related projects;
- Media-related forms of participation, such as children's and youth pages in newspapers, magazines and the Internet, children's programmes on radio and TV;
- Open forms of participation that are initiated spontaneously and on an ad hoc basis, in particular through children's and youth forums, children's conferences and children's assemblies.
An additional person has been appointed to involve children. This person works on a voluntary basis and is known as the "contact point for children and youth issues".

Youth event 2026 in Rüdersdorf
An event by young people - for young people!
Would you like to organise something of your own? This year you get the chance to plan and realise an event together with other young people according to your own ideas.
In January 2026, young people from Rüdersdorf were able to submit their ideas for the youth event online. The 1st planning meeting took place on 28 January in the Crazy House. There, the young people cast their final votes on the theme, time and location and formed small groups to organise the event.
You can find the detailed results of the online preliminary vote and the 1st planning meeting here.
At the second planning meeting on 11 March, the three small groups shared their current status, discussed their ideas and gave each other feedback.
The "Programme & Artist Selection" small group presented the first musical acts that were recommended in the online survey and in discussions with young people from Rüdersdorf.
The "Public Relations" small group presented initial ideas for the poster design and various ways to reach children and young people for the event.
The "Catering & Bar" small group presented several ideas for providing food and drinks during the festival.
Interested young people can still join the small groups. The next planning meeting with all small groups will take place on 29 April at 15:30 in the Crazy House.
