A complete success - the 20th Brandenburg Seniors' Week

The 20th Brandenburg Seniors' Week

was under the motto:

"20 years of senior citizen work - active, self-determined, solidary"

and was opened on 8 June 2013 by Minister President Matthias Platzeck in Potsdam's Friedenskirche church. Members of the Seniors' Advisory Council of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin also took part in this ceremony.
In Rüdersdorf itself, many events organised by the Seniors' Advisory Council took place in the following week and were well attended.

11 June 2013 The discussion round with people in special circumstances at the Protestant Community Centre attracted interested citizens as well as representatives from various self-help groups and advice centres.

13 June 2013 The senior citizens' gymnastics workshop is very popular not only in the municipality, but also in the surrounding area. It was held for the 10th time this year and the predominantly female participants enjoyed the cabaret programme over coffee afterwards.

14 June 2013 In addition to Mayor André Schaller and municipal representatives, citizens from all districts took part in the lively discussions at the town hall meeting in the Herzfelde community centre.

16 June2013 As is tradition, awards are presented to deserving senior citizens at the Senior Citizens' Festival during Senior Citizens' Week. This year they were:

Heinz Bollfraß, Bärbel Falkenhan, Waltraud Hauschildt, Ingelore Jahn, Isla Janke, Gudrun Otto, Renate Radoy (all Rüdersdorf)

Anneliese Weiß, Susi Schüttel (Hennickendorf)

Christel Schwarzwald (Lichtenow), Irma Ziethmann (Herzfelde)

17 June 2013 At the "Crazy House" youth club, senior citizens from Rüdersdorf told 11th grade students from Heinitz-Gymnasium about their war experiences and life after the end of the war in 1945. They cooked and ate nettle soup together. This "young meets old" event was very inspiring and one of the highlights of the Senior Citizens' Week and should be repeated.
