In view of the ongoing drought, the Märkisch-Oderland district authority points out that the ban on water abstraction from surface waters within the district has been in force since 2020.
The general order under water law prohibits the abstraction of water for the purposes of owner’s use, communal use and neighbouring property use from all surface waters in the Märkisch-Oderland district. It was issued in June 2020 due to the ongoing dry spells and remains in force until further notice. A new order was therefore not required this year.
Whilst several districts in Brandenburg have issued similar general orders for the first time or once again in recent weeks, the Märkisch-Oderland district has had a legally binding and ongoing regulation in place for six years now.
Through this general order, the district authority is addressing the challenges facing water management. The aim is to protect surface waters from further damage during periods of drought and heat, and to safeguard the water balance in the long term.
The district authority urges all residents to comply with the current general order.
The general order has been published on the district’s website and in the Official Gazette, and remains in force unchanged.
