Mayoral election 2025 in Rüdersdorf near Berlin

On 23 November 2025, the citizens of the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin will elect their full-time mayor for the coming term of office (01.01.2026 - 31.12.2034). Information for voters

Who can vote?

All citizens who are at least 16 years old on election day and have their main residence in the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin or have lived there for at least three months are eligible to vote.

How do you vote?

Voting takes place by ballot paper in the polling stations or by postal vote on request. If no candidate achieves an absolute majority (over 50 %) or fulfils the quorum, a run-off election is held between the top two candidates.

Quorum:

In addition to the majority of votes cast, at least 15 % of the votes of all eligible voters must be cast in favour of one person for the election to be valid.

Example: with 10,000 eligible voters, the winner of the election would have to receive at least 1,500 of all votes cast in addition to the majority (50 % of the votes cast).

Who can stand as a candidate?

Eligible is whoever:

is a German or EU citizen
is at least 18 years old on election day
has their main residence or habitual abode in Germany

Anyone who, for example:

is excluded from public office by judicial decision
has been convicted of serious criminal offences
has lost his or her eligibility to vote in his or her country of origin (for EU citizens)
