Obituary
We mourn the loss of Jörg Lehmann.
On 14 February 2020, Jörg Lehmann passed away peacefully following a serious illness. For decades, he played a key role in shaping life in Rüdersdorf near Berlin.
Even as a theology student, hailing from our parish, he was a co-founder of the Rüdersdorf Environmental Working Group (RUAK) and rendered outstanding service through his commitment to improving living conditions in the village. For many years, he served as our deputy mayor and head of the public order office, devoting himself to the fire services and numerous social causes. Later, he did not hesitate to take on the role of managing the Kultur GmbH. Most recently, he worked at the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment, yet remained, like no other, wholeheartedly connected to his hometown and the people here. In May 2019, already marked by his serious illness, he was elected by many as an independent candidate to the local council.
Jörg Lehmann was well connected both locally and beyond. He had many ideas and the courage to tackle even difficult tasks. Rüdersdorf owes the establishment of the operetta and the Pelle-Kids in part to him. The selection of the Museum Park as a national urban development project – which brought substantial funding to the Museum Park – and the idea of a small marina with a large public open space were his visions that have now been realised. He enjoyed opening events at the Kulturhaus, hosting whisky evenings in the Kalkscheune, or representing our community outside the town in his miner’s uniform. He was also a member of the Mining Association, and many fondly remember the miners’ wedding with his Andrea.
Jörg Lehmann was a true Rüdersdorfer through and through, in his own unique way. He had his heart in the right place, took a lot on the chin and was not afraid to give as good as he got. But his actions were always selfless and shaped by his great love for his home town of Rüdersdorf near Berlin.
We will miss him – our former boss, colleague, club mate, comrade-in-arms and, for many, a good friend. But what he began and created will preserve our fond memories of him forever. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife Andrea, his parents and his family.
