The school crossing guard project at Rüdersdorf primary and secondary school, the only one of its kind in Märkisch-Oderland to date, kicked off on Monday 16 April 2018. The 14 trained pupils from Year 6 and 7 arrived punctually at 07:20 to start their "work". Each lollipop lady and lollipop man acquired a certificate beforehand by attending 5 teaching units and then successfully passing an examination, which makes their deployment possible in the first place. The training was organised by the DRK, the water rescue service and the traffic watch. The latter also equipped the school crossing patrols with signalling clothing and trowels. Present on this first day were the headmaster, Mr Treßin, the two representatives of the traffic watch, Mr Wähner and Mr Bernau, as well as employees from the local authority's public order office. The initiative, which enables schoolchildren to make their way to school safely, was launched by parents' representative Mr Weuster. The aim is to continue the school crossing patrol project on a permanent basis.
