According to § 1 of the Arbitration Board Act of the State of Brandenburg, every municipality is obliged to set up and maintain one or more arbitration boards.
The arbitrators are elected by the municipal council for five years and work on an honorary basis. The current term of office expires at the end of 2020. A deputy arbitrator is appointed for each arbitrator. The arbitrators to be elected must be suitable for the office in accordance with Section 3 of the Arbitration Act. They must be over 25 years of age and reside in the area of the arbitration board.
The task of the arbitration board is to settle disputes out of court. As an arbitrator, you need to have empathy, be able to listen, be impartial and have common sense.
