Steffen Poschitzke from Rüdersdorf achieved a very good fourth place at the international welding competition "ARC Cup" on the last weekend in May in Beijing, thus achieving the best result of the German delegation.
As the national winner of the Berlin-Brandenburg state association in tungsten inert gas welding, the 23-year-old from Rüdersdorf took part in this competition for the first time, where 55 master welders from China, South Korea and the Czech Republic showed their skills and competed for podium places. In the end, the Chinese hosts dominated with their welding skills.
"It was a very eventful time," said trainer Steffen Sachse from the Hennickendorf training centre of the Frankfurt (Oder) Chamber of Skilled Crafts - East Brandenburg region, who accompanied his protégé to China.
Of course, there was also some time for culture in addition to the competition. Together with the German delegation, the duo visited the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City and the "Bird's Nest" Olympic Stadium of the 2008 Summer Games.
Next year, Steffen Poschitzke will once again compete against the German competition in the "Youth Welding" competition.
