- Area code 033638 expanded with VDSL
- Speeds of up to 100 MBit/s possible
- How the new technology works
Rüdersdorf is the fourth municipality in Brandenburg to be ready for Deutsche Telekom's new vectoring technology. VDSL connections with up to 100 megabits per second (Mbit/s) for downloads and up to 40 Mbit/s for uploads can now be booked. Telekom has expanded and modernised the network in the 033638 area code. Over 5500 households benefit from this. Almost 30 multifunctional cabinets with state-of-the-art technology have been installed and over 25 kilometres of new fibre optic cable have been laid.
"We know how important a high-performance Internet connection is, which is why Deutsche Telekom has been pushing ahead with broadband expansion for years and investing around four billion euros a year in Germany," says Tobias Zimmermann, contact person for Telekom's infrastructure sales in Rüdersdorf.
"This is great news for Rüdersdorf and our citizens," said André Schaller, Mayor of Rüdersdorf, at today's official launch. "I am delighted that a long period of preparation and support has come to a positive conclusion. The new network gives our municipality a locational advantage that benefits us all.
Three steps to fast Internet
Deutsche Telekom will increase the number of VDSL connections nationwide from 12 to 24 million by the end of 2016 and also significantly increase the speed of the VDSL network: from a maximum of 50 to 100 Mbit/s for downloading and from 10 to 40 Mbit/s for uploading. Uploading in particular is becoming increasingly important. People are actively using the Internet today. They share their texts, photos and videos online.
Three steps are necessary to realise fast Internet:
- Firstly, the copper cable is replaced by fibre optic cable on the route between the local exchange and the multifunctional housing. Fibre optics is the fastest transmission medium in the world. Data can be transmitted in glass fibre at the speed of light.
- Secondly, the multifunctional cabinets (MFCs) are distributed across the expansion area in such a way that the distance between the customer and the MFC is minimised. The rule of thumb applies: The closer the customer lives to the MFG, the higher the available speed. The MFG is packed with state-of-the-art technology. In it, the signal is transferred from the fibre optic cable to a copper line.
- Thirdly, vectoring technology is used on the copper line that runs from the MFG to the customer: it gives the data on the copper cable a boost because it eliminates the electromagnetic interference signals that exist between copper lines. This enables faster upload and download speeds.
How customers get faster internet.
Customers in Rüdersdorf who want to benefit from the new speeds must take action themselves and extend their contract or conclude a new contract with Telekom: The employees of the following Telekom partner shops are available for this purpose:
- Telekom Shop Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf, Frankfurter Chaussee 48, 15370 Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf
- Kommunikationsdienst GmbH, Landhausstraße-Gewerbepark 4, 15345 Eggersdorf
In addition, customers in Rüdersdorf can contact local Telekom employees for advice on ordering DSL connections or higher bandwidths. They will visit customers at home. The customer advisors can be recognised by their Deutsche Telekom outfits and identify themselves with a photo ID and a letter of authorisation from Deutsche Telekom.
Interested customers can also find out about offers and contacts via the website www.telekom.de/schneller and the hotline 0800 330 3000. In addition, trained and authorised sales staff will also be able to advise interested customers directly at home.
