Münster/Rüdersdorf The Rowing Bundesliga’s (RBL) “Sparda-Bank Race Day” got off to a promising start for the SECUINFRA eight from Rüdersdorf-Pirna. A time of 53.6 seconds on the sprint course, just under 350 metres long, secured second place in the time trial at the start of the day, putting them in a strong position for the rest of the races. The subsequent round of 16 match against the TK eight from Dresden was won convincingly. The quarter-final against the Waldsee eight from Baden-Württemberg also ended in a clear victory for Rüdersdorf.
The aim for the day was to finish in the top four. This had already been achieved with the victory in the quarter-finals. Now they faced the strong boat from Hanover in the semi-finals. In a tough, neck-and-neck race, the SECUINFRA eight were ultimately defeated. Despite a good start, they eventually lost the third-place play-off against the eight from Witten. “We got off to a good start on race day and achieved our minimum target of fourth place,” said team manager Benjamin Kawalle.
Following the three race days in Frankfurt (Main), Hamburg and Münster, the SECUINFRA eight is currently fourth in the table. Whether a better position is possible will become clear at the upcoming race day in Leipzig on 19 August. This race day is also the highlight of the Bundesliga calendar, as the evening races will be held under floodlights. Given the distance between Rüdersdorf and Leipzig, all fans are warmly invited to come and support the SECUINFRA eight along the route.
The legendary eight-o’er sprint, the “König vom Kalksee”, will take place on 5 August (12 noon–7 pm) at the Rüdersdorf Rowing Club’s grounds.
