Mayor Sabine Löser and Stefan Holighaus, a member of the management board at DNS:NET, signed a cooperation agreement today, Thursday, for the roll-out of a comprehensive fibre-optic network in the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin. This marked the start of one of the largest infrastructure projects in the municipality in recent years.
A major project for the future in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg is the roll-out of fibre-optic infrastructure to local communities, which is a fundamental prerequisite for future-proof and innovative development. Coverage has so far been patchy; under-served areas have made far too slow progress with funding schemes or have been held up for long periods by bureaucratic red tape. However, there are also numerous successful models that focus on widespread roll-out and secure this in partnership with Brandenburg’s largest alternative broadband provider. On 7 April 2022, the municipality of Rüdersdorf therefore signed a cooperation agreement with DNS:NET for the commercially viable and comprehensive roll-out of fibre-optic infrastructure.
The aim of being able to provide all private households, without exception, with speeds of up to 2.5 gigabits per second particularly appeals to Rüdersdorf’s mayor, Sabine Löser. “This agreement gives us a great opportunity to achieve comprehensive coverage for all households. This will help our community with key infrastructure and innovation projects. Today, more than ever, the internet is part of essential public services. A comprehensive roll-out of fibre-optic broadband will strengthen our community and bring benefits to everyone who already lives here and to all those who would like to move here in the future. I am delighted that we will be embarking on this journey together with a regional company such as DNS:NET. The rapid pace of private-sector roll-out in neighbouring municipalities across the district gives us confidence that we are on the right track here.”
The local council’s decision to enter into the agreement was based on a firm commitment to roll out the network across the entire area and leave no gaps. “Just as in Altlandsberg, Neuenhagen near Berlin and other proactive, responsible local authorities that are opting for the roll-out of the fibre-optic network across their areas in the interests of their residents, the roll-out of the ‘Made in Brandenburg’ fibre-optic network will also get under way reliably and on schedule in the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin, ” said Hardy Heine, a representative of DNS:NET.
The available bandwidths are among the highest in the country. In the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin, comprising the districts of Rüdersdorf, Hennickendorf, Herzfelde and Lichtenow, over 7,000 households are provided with attractive communications packages. The education campus, key healthcare facilities and public utilities also benefit from the new Giga network.
As in other municipalities and districts in Brandenburg, DNS:NET is implementing a comprehensive, open fibre-optic infrastructure based on the ‘fibre to the home (FTTH)’, based on the open access principle, with a scalable bandwidth of at least 1 Gbit/s (up to 2.5 Gbit/s for residential customers and 10 GB for businesses) across the entire municipal area. Pre-marketing is crucial for a swift launch, with the aim of achieving a 50 per cent take-up rate – a process already underway in the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin. Thanks to DNS:NET’s self-financed roll-out, more and more regions inBrandenburg have the opportunity to benefit from a unique infrastructure which, in addition to providing essential public services across all relevant areas of society, drives economic development, educational opportunities, the provision of services to residents and increases the value of local property. Particularly committed local authorities are specifically focusing on partnerships with DNS:NET to achieve rapid coverage across their areas. As a result, high pre-contract rates of up to 50 per cent are the norm, with the local authorities supporting the planning and information processes.
