Press release 2/2022 from the Märkisch-Oderland district
As part of the broadband expansion in LOS 6 – the area around Berlin – funded by the federal government, the state and the district, Telekom has been awarded the contract to provide all households with less than 30 Mbit/s of bandwidth with new fibre-optic technology. However, households connected in this way can also use other telecommunications service providers to take out contracts.
Whilst planning work has been underway for several months, from mid-January onwards, individual property owners in the various towns and municipalities identified for the new fibre-optic connection under the funding scheme will be contacted, with a request to consent to the laying of fibre-optic cables across private land into their homes.
It does not matter how far the house in question is from public land. This could be 10 metres or even 100 metres. In any case, Telekom will lay the fibre-optic connection to the house free of charge if the owner so wishes.
The letters refer to an internet link and a QR code (which can be scanned with a mobile phone, for example), both of which lead to a Telekom registration page. There, you can enter your address and contact details in just a few steps and will receive a reply email confirming that your application has been received.

Only then will the fibre-optic connection be installed free of charge at a later date, and Telekom technicians will, of course, contact the resident prior to installation.
It is important to note that this registration does not entail any further obligations, either with Telekom or with other competitors. It would therefore still be possible to retain the existing telephone connection without using this new fibre-optic service.
