On Monday 9 July, a small pilot project was launched in Rüdersdorf. The idea of installing portable toilets at specific locations in Rüdersdorf had been under consideration for some time. A few suggestions had also been made via the MAERKER citizens’ portal during that period. Following extensive research, we came across the provider EcoToiletten. We were impressed by their concept, and there are now five mobile EcoToiletten (www.ecotoiletten.de) in a wide variety of locations across the municipality. Three of the toilets are situated at bathing spots and sunbathing areas; two of these are accessible and are located in cemeteries. At the bathing spots and sunbathing areas, the EcoToiletten will remain in place until the end of the season (end of September). They are cleaned weekly, and the product claims to be odour-free. We are keen to see whether this proves to be the case. In the long term, the mobile toilets are intended to be used only at the bathing spots and sunbathing areas; a sustainable solution is being sought for the cemeteries.
