Country Night, Grand Harbour Spectacle and Dragon Boat Cup
- The 14th Rüdersdorf Water Festival 2010 -
This year’s Water Festival at Rüdersdorf’s Kalksee began on Friday 13 August. However, many people were not put off by this superstitious date. Consequently, despite occasional rain showers, numerous visitors enjoyed the spectacle in the large marquee on the grounds of the Rüdersdorf Rowing Club.
At 7.00 pm, the festival weekend kicked off to everyone’s complete satisfaction with a successful country night. Amongst other things, there was music from Claude Blue Sky & DJ and performances by the O.M.C.D. (Ostrich Mountain Country Dancers e. V.) to see and, above all, to hear.
Just as cheerful, but unfortunately just as rainy, the festivities continued on Saturday with the harbour spectacle at Kalksee. In true pirate style, alongside fishermen, sailors, craftsmen, a ship christening and the colourful children’s programme, one could of course also experience the pirates themselves, as well as the governor (Mayor André Schaller) and his honourable entourage (including Deputy Mayor Jörg Lehmann and local councillor Ronny Neumann). With a masterclass in acting, the programme featured a raid with a shootout, a swindlers’ spectacle, a naval battle and much more. On the ship-shaped stage in the marquee, the Sperlingshausen nursery, the BarnimerTanzMix, the Petershagen choir, the Rüdersdorf Mountain Band, the Rüdersdorf Romantic Theatre and ‘the singing sailor’ – alias Bernfried Schöne – provided delightful entertainment. In the evening, the awards were presented for the most impressive fleet in the boat parade and the most outstanding garden. The day’s grand finale was the spectacular fireworks display shortly after 11.00 pm. Afterwards, the day was rounded off with a lively party.
On Sunday, 15 August, the Dragon Boat Cup thrilled visitors to the Water Festival. The prize was awarded to the team that finished in the top three on the 250-metre sprint course, but a special prize was also awarded for the best costume. A list of the results and photos of the races can be found here.
