“Making Music for Peace” – under this motto, a charity concert will take place on Saturday 5 March 2022 at 6.00 pm at the Kulturhaus in Seelow to support people in Ukraine suffering from the consequences of the war. By attending the concert, people in Märkisch-Oderland and other parts of Brandenburg can show their solidarity and also provide very practical help. The donations collected during the evening will go to Ukraine-Hilfe Lobetal and thus directly benefit the people of Ukraine. The organisation behind Ukraine-Hilfe Lobetal is cura hominum e.V., based in Lobetal. No seat reservations are available, and the organisers are expecting a large turnout. Attendees are asked to bring a ‘peace candle’ to symbolise their wish for peace.
The evening’s programme ranges from piano pieces by Sergey Rachmaninoff and J.S. Bach, through saxophone and cello pieces by J.F. Handel, to vocal pieces from Ukraine. The musical pieces are linked by readings by Lothar Kirchbaum. The performing artists come from various countries, including Ukraine, Russia and Germany.
The concert is being organised on the initiative of Simona Koß (SPD), a Member of the Bundestag, and Alexander Braun, head of the Hugo Diestler Music School, who have put together a broad, cross-party alliance. The event is backed by the district council groups of the SPD, the CDU, Die Linke, the Farmers’ and Rural Areas Party, the FDP and Alliance 90/The Greens. The concert is supported by members of the state parliament Elske Hildebrandt (SPD), Bettina Fortunato (Die Linke) and Jörg Vogelsänger (SPD), as well as by the Mayor of Seelow, Jörg Schröder, and the District Administrator of Märkisch-Oderland, Gernot Schmidt. The event is also backed by Sparkasse Märkisch-Oderland.
Simona Koß on her initiative: “We all feel anger and a sense of powerlessness in the face of the war in Ukraine led by Putin. What is needed now is to help the people suffering from the war quickly and without red tape. The charity concert ‘Making Music for Peace’ is a first step, taking place at a deliberately chosen historic venue.”
