The Christ Child in the Forest – Ernst von Wildenbruch
The Christ Child came to the winter forest,
the snow was white, the snow was cold.
But when the Holy Child appeared,
the winter forest began to blossom.
The Christ Child stepped up to the apple tree; “
” awakens it from its winter slumber. “
” “Give me sweet apples, give me tender apples, “
” give me apples of every kind!”
The apple tree shakes itself,
the apple tree shakes itself.
Apples are raining down all around;
the Christ Child’s pockets are getting heavy.
It gathered all the sweet fruits,
and so came to the people.
Now, dear little mouths, come and eat,
what the Christ Child has brought you!
