History and stories about Rüdersdorf

A Rüdersdorf personality
The life of Peter Lübke, who was born in Krefeld, is inextricably linked to the development of the village of Kalkberge. He began his service to the community in 1882 as secretary of the Kalkberge Rent Office, a sovereign financial administration. Here he gained his first insights into the politics of the village, which he actively shaped from 1886 onwards as head of the municipality. During his 25-year term of office, the property and responsibilities of the municipality were expanded. In 1903, for example, it assumed responsibility for the local schools. Lübkes also focussed on transport routes and infrastructure. In 1911, the motorway to Klein Schönebeck - today's Kalkberger Straße - was built. At the same time, the construction of a bridge over the Kalkgraben was begun, which was completed in 1914 and given Lübkes' name shortly afterwards. After he had helped to shape community life as a church elder, director of the Kalkberge credit bank, co-founder of the marksmen's guild founded in 1894 and chairman of the Kalkberge Beautification Association, Lübkes retired in 1914 at the age of 73. He died two years later in Kalkberge-Rüdersdorf.
