At the start of the local council meeting on 18 December 2025 at 6.30 pm, Max Marzillier, a native of Rüdersdorf, will be honoured for winning the world title in the T13 400-metre sprint at this year’s World Championships. The reigning world champion will sign the council’s Golden Book and receive a gift.
In a spectacular final sprint at the World Championships final in New Delhi on 3 October 2025, he overtook the Japanese favourite Ryota Fukunaga in a time of 49.00 seconds to secure his first world title in his speciality. In his youth, Marzillier was diagnosed with cone-rod dystrophy, which meant he had to change schools and could no longer play football for MSV Rüdersdorf. The then 14-year-old was spotted at a trial and later moved to the Cottbus training centre.
Last year, Max Marzillier was honoured for his participation in the 2024 Paris Paralympics in front of pupils at his former school, the Friedrich-Anton-von-Heinitz-Gymnasium. During the event, he answered questions from interested young people. It became clear just how passionate the 24-year-old is about his sport and how hard he is fighting to bring parasport more into the public eye.
Taking up this idea, the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin has decided to dedicate one of its town hall exhibitions to para-sport next year. The exhibition is expected to open in the second quarter of 2026 and will feature photographs from national and international competitions.
