Press release from MOL District

On-demand collection of garden waste from 2026 onwards

Press release from MOL County: 58/2025

From 2026, green waste collection will be on an on-demand basis. The Märkisch-Oderland Waste Management Company (EMO) has announced this change. This means that, as with bulky waste collection, the collection of green waste bags and bundles must be booked in advance by telephone, online or via the MOL Waste App. A collection date will then be confirmed within three weeks, by which time the filled bags or bundles should be placed out for collection.

This change became necessary as the number of bags and bands collected has fallen sharply in recent years. Whilst around 194,000 filled green waste bags were collected in 2015, this figure had fallen to just around 48,000 by 2024. More and more residents in the district are instead using organic waste bins, in which green and kitchen waste can be disposed of. Three different bin sizes (80, 120 and 240 litres) are still available.

From 2026, the waste management company will also be offering a container service for garden waste. A range of container sizes (from 3 square metres) will make it possible to dispose of even large quantities of leaves and garden waste.
The sale of kraft paper bags for garden waste disposal will be discontinued from 2026. Garden waste stickers will still be available at sales outlets.
