On the death of Renate Radoy

Renate Radoy passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, 15 November 2025, her 94th birthday. With her passing, the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin has lost a committed citizen who shaped life in the municipality in many ways and was known far beyond the local borders.

As an artist, Renate Radoy engraved eggs with a wide variety of motifs. She was particularly proud to have engraved Goethe's Easter walk on an Easter egg. But her art was also characterised by motifs from our community and the region - striking views of buildings and streets that no longer exist or still exist. Each work bears witness to extraordinary precision, imagination and dedication. On special occasions, she also designed the now patented memory eggs, which were awarded to artists as mementos of events, for example.

As an art lover, she lived the idea of a cultural metropolis in Rüdersdorf and fought for culture in rural areas. She took part in TRS productions herself and was an enthusiastic audience member - whether in the cultural centre, in the museum park, in Berlin or in Barby. She was particularly successful in winning the hearts of the youngest children, who beamed when their "Pelle-Omi" was present at performances and watched with delight as the youngsters created art.

However, Renate Radoy made her most important contribution as a person who never shied away from expressing her opinion clearly, taking a stand and maintaining a clear edge. As a contemporary witness of the Second World War, she gave an impressive and emphatic account of her experiences, described what moved her to this day and made it clear where hatred, marginalisation and violence lead - always with humour and charm, but with an unmistakable attitude.

We bow our heads in deep gratitude for her work right up to the end. Our thoughts are with her family in these difficult times and we wish them all the best and much strength.
