Press Release 2025/44

Zwergenschloss nursery in Herzfelde is closed until further notice

The Zwergenschloss nursery in the Herzfelde district will remain closed with immediate effect and until further notice due to water damage. Following the discovery of water damage in early October, a second routine test for mould spores has now been carried out at the local nursery to assess the effectiveness of the measures taken so far.

The results now available show that the limit values have been exceeded in several rooms, meaning that the nursery cannot operate in the main building in Herzfelde for the time being.

In order to resume childcare as soon as possible, the emergency plan for nursery closures in the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin has now been activated. Until this plan comes into effect, we are unfortunately unable to guarantee childcare for the children affected. The aim is to provide emergency childcare for individual groups as early as this week and to resume normal nursery operations in an alternative building as soon as possible.

In the event of an emergency closure of the nursery, the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin has drawn up contingency plans over the past few years. However, it takes a few days to prepare and coordinate before these plans can be implemented. Colleagues in the relevant department are already working flat out to find a solution so that the nursery can resume operations as soon as possible. Until then, the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin asks all affected parents for their understanding – the measures now being taken are intended to protect our youngest children.

At the same time, a renovation plan for a comprehensive refurbishment of the building is being drawn up in collaboration with the specialist firm that has already been commissioned. This plan includes both structural work and a full chemical decontamination of the building. It is not yet clear when the nursery will be able to resume operations in the main building.

The local authority in Rüdersdorf near Berlin asks all affected parents to refrain from contacting the relevant department, as all resources are currently focused on implementing the emergency plan as quickly as possible. Parents will be kept informed proactively as soon as there are any updates.
