There should be a spirit of goodwill amongst neighbours, but unfortunately conflicts do arise time and again, which disrupt peaceful coexistence. To find a solution in such cases, the municipality of Rüdersdorf relies on a tried-and-tested method of conflict resolution: the arbitration board. To strengthen the team of arbitrators, we are looking for committed local residents to join the arbitration board who wish to play an active role in out-of-court dispute resolution.
If you can answer ‘yes’ to the following questions, you are the ideal arbitrator:
- Are you in the prime of your life?
- Do you enjoy taking on responsibility?
- Do you enjoy communicating and are you able to remain impartial whilst doing so?
- Do you enjoy mediating – even when things get a bit tricky?
- Are you interested in legally complex issues?
Then apply now to become an arbitrator and help residents in the four districts to resolve neighbourhood disputes!
The voluntary role as an arbitrator will begin on 8 October 2025 and end on 7 October 2030. The election of the arbitrators will take place, following a proposal from the Public Order Office, by the local council, provisionally at its meeting on 19 June 2025.
What is an arbitration body?
In the state of Brandenburg, local authorities are required to set up an arbitration board. This arbitration board is designed to resolve disputes out of court and is recognised as a conciliation body. In many cases, arbitration can help to resolve conflicts between neighbours quickly and easily – before it becomes necessary to take the matter to court.
Typical neighbourhood disputes include, for example, overhanging branches and roots, fruit falling into a neighbour’s garden, plants or trees growing too close to the property boundary, as well as claims relating to insults, breach of the privacy of correspondence, threats, minor bodily harm or damage to property.
The role of the arbitrators:
Arbitrators are there to mediate between the disputing parties and reach an amicable settlement. A successful settlement has the same legal force as a court judgement and is enforceable. If no agreement is reached, a certificate confirming that the mediation was unsuccessful may be issued, enabling the parties to take the matter to court.
