Place of residence – Deregistration of a sole residence or main residence

If you move out of your sole residence and do not move into another property within the country, you must deregister. This is usually the case if you move abroad.

If you are moving house within Germany, you do not need to deregister. It is sufficient to register with your new local authority.

Identity card, or a provisional one if applicable

Identity card, replacement identity card, recognised and valid passport or passport substitute

In the case of persons under the age of 16, care must be taken to ensure that they are removed from the register of the persons from whose home they are moving out.
