If you move out of a flat and do not move into another flat within the country, you must deregister.
The most common scenarios are moving abroad or deregistering a secondary residence.
If you are moving within Germany, you do not need to deregister. It is sufficient to register with your new local authority.

Prerequisites
In the case of persons under the age of 16, care must be taken to ensure that they are removed from the register of the persons from whose home they are moving out.
Deadlines
You must deregister with the registration office within two weeks of moving out of the flat. You can do this as early as the week before you move out.
