  • Costs (fees, expenses, etc.)

    None

If you fail to fulfil your obligation to re-register, or fail to do so on time, you are committing an administrative offence which may result in a fine.

  • Procedure

To register, you must complete and sign the officially prescribed registration form. You must submit this in person or authorise another suitable person to do so on your behalf.

Depending on the local authority’s procedures, you may not need to complete the registration form; instead, your details may be recorded directly when you visit the relevant office in person. You will then be required to sign a printed copy to confirm that the details are correct.

Family members and partners in a civil partnership should use a single registration form together if they move from a shared home to a new shared home on the same day.

Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation of registration.

If the relevant authority in your new place of residence has set up an online portal for registration, you can also submit the required details via this portal using a qualified electronic signature.

You cannot use this service if you

    • move here from abroad or
    • use a pseudonym in your electronic signature instead of your name.

In such cases, you must log in as described above.
