As part of a standard enquiry to the register of residents, the registration authority will provide you with the surname, first names, academic title and current addresses of the person you are looking for. If the person has died, you will be informed of this.
Whether a registration authority provides you with information about the person you are seeking is at its discretion, in accordance with its duties. A standard extract from the register of residents will not be provided if a restriction on disclosure has been entered in the register or if the registration authority has reason to believe that this could pose a risk to the legitimate interests of the person concerned or of another person.

Prerequisites
- It must be possible to identify the person you are looking for unequivocally on the basis of the information you provide. This means that you must already have details about the person in question. These are usually their first name and surname, date of birth, gender or last known address.
- If you are using the data for commercial purposes, you must state this.
- When making the request, you must state that you will not use the data for advertising or address trading purposes, or that the data subject has given their consent to this.
- If you are making the enquiry to the registration authority for the purposes of advertising or address trading, and the registration authority has not given its consent, you must declare to the registration authority that you have obtained such consent.
- The registration authority may require you to provide the data subject’s consent.
- There must be no restriction on access to information in the register of residents.

Fee: Automated provision of basic information from the register of residents: €5.50 per person requested
Provision of basic information from the register of residents in writing: €12.00 per person requested
Procedure
You can apply for information from the register of residents in person or in writing at the registration office responsible for the place of residence of the person you are enquiring about.
Some local authorities offer the option of applying for information from the register of residents online.
