At the beginning of 2018, the disposal of household waste and household-type commercial waste was switched from the previous ident-weighing system to a pure ident system, as announced. This means that the waste is no longer weighed when the waste bins are emptied (service fee), but only the emptying of the bin is documented electronically and then used for billing (emptying fee). This is done with the help of the RFID transponder (microchip) built into the waste bin and the reader attached to the collection vehicle. Further information on the Ident system can be found on our website.
As this topic is attracting interest, we would like to explain the reasons for the changeover and the resulting changes for you:
The previous service contract for the disposal of household waste and household-like commercial waste in the district of Märkisch-Oderland expired at the end of 2017. For this reason, the disposal service was re-tendered for the period 1 January 2018 - 30 April 2024 with a two-year extension option.
In recent years, the costs for waste disposal (labour costs, operating costs, landfill fees for the third-party waste disposal company) have risen significantly. In addition, high costs have been incurred for the Ident weighing system due to the necessary maintenance and calibration of the truck scales as well as the uneconomical collection of many waste containers provided with a low fill level.
By switching to a pure Ident system, the costs for calibrating the scales are eliminated. Furthermore, the collection of fewer, but usually completely full, waste containers is much more economical and therefore approx. 15 - 20 % cheaper. These savings are used to stabilise the fees so that the basic fees for 2018 did not have to be increased.
The citizens of Märkisch-Oderland are used to separating their waste properly: The new Ident system will continue to incentivise this. With the choice of container size and the number of empties, you continue to have an influence on the amount of your fees!
The enclosed information will certainly help you with any questions you may have!
