Due to massive structural defects, the monument had to be completely dismantled in 2013. Following initial restoration work, the second foundation stone of the monument was laid on 17 June 2014 with the insertion of a casket containing newspaper articles and coins.
The reopening took place as part of a commemorative event on 27 July 2014 in memory of the outbreak of the First World War 100 years ago.
The ceremony was performed jointly by the mayor of the French twin town of Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, Michel Fourcade, and the mayor of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin, André Schaller.
After a few words from both mayors and the chairman of the local council, Ronny Neumann, a wreath was laid.
There was also support from numerous children and young people from our community, who symbolically presented Mayor Fourcade with a golden dove of peace with wishes.
