On 23 July 2013, a different kind of exhibition opened at 3.30 pm in the town hall of the municipality of Rüdersdorf. "Das Lied von der Glocke" is an exhibition on Friedrich Schiller's most famous poem and is presented by the "Glocken für Rüdersdorf" campaign in collaboration with the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin Preußischer Kulturbesitz, the largest universal library in the German-speaking world. This extraordinary exhibition is intended to support the "Bells for Rüdersdorf" campaign. This was launched with the aim of providing the Catholic parish church of the Holy Family with a new peal of bells.
Mayor André Schaller opened the event, welcoming all the guests in his speech and praising the "Bells for Rüdersdorf" campaign and the resulting initiative for this special exhibition.
He also emphasised that the municipality of Rüdersdorf supports the Catholic parish's desire to purchase a new bell ringing system. That is why he was happy to take up the idea of presenting this exhibition in the town hall of the municipality of Rüdersdorf. In addition, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin Preußischer Kulturbesitz is an exceptional partner in this endeavour.
Mr Schaller then handed over to Dr Daniela Lülfing from the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin Preußischer Kulturbesitz: "We are delighted to be able to support the wonderful "Bells for Rüdersdorf" campaign in our own way. We were pleased to put together a presentation on Friedrich Schiller's most famous poem from our extensive collection. We recently opened the new central reading room in our building on Unter den Linden, which was destroyed during the war. There, everyone can also take a look at the originals."
Mr Alfred M. Molter, spokesman for the "Campaign Bells for Rüdersdorf" and organiser of the exhibition, then thanked all supporters of the campaign, in particular the Rüdersdorf sponsors and the State Library for implementing the exhibition idea and the municipality of Rüdersdorf for the presentation opportunity in Rüdersdorf Town Hall. After an interesting introduction to the topic of the exhibition, which aroused the interest of every guest for the carefully designed panels, Mayor Schaller officially opened the presentation. He concluded by expressing his joy and hope for the success of the "Bells for Rüdersdorf" campaign with a quote from the last two verses of Schiller's great didactic poem: "Let the joy of this town mean, peace be its first peal."
Finally, the exhibition panels were viewed over coffee and cake, interesting discussions were held and questions from the press representatives present were answered.
The exhibition can be viewed until 5 September 2013 in the town hall of the municipality of Rüdersdorf during opening hours.
