On 11 December 2009 from 3 pm, the Day of Volunteering was celebrated in the Raatssaal of Rüdersdorf Town Hall. The Day of Volunteering is international and recognises people who volunteer in the areas of social affairs, health, education, culture, the environment and transport. This year, the focus was on honouring people who do good work away from the "limelight". The eight people honoured included
Mr Adalbert Jaeger - for his tireless efforts in the Kulturhaus,
Mrs Brigitte Jaeger - for her great commitment to the Kulturhaus
(unfortunately unable to attend for health reasons),
Mrs Marita Knäringer - for caring for a woman since 2008 who became dependent following an accident,
Mrs Käte Preibisch - for her commitment to the Volkssolidarität, the "Glück auf" Rüdersdorf e.V. sports club and the allotment garden association,
Mrs Renate Klose - for her commitment to the Volkssolidarität and the "Glück auf" Rüdersdorf e.V. sports club,
Mrs Helga Thiele - for her many years of caring for the grave of an unknown soldier in Hennickendorf,
Mrs Renate Garbe - for her committed membership in the Volkssolidarität and as the idea generator of the "Monday Breakfast Round Table" in Hennickendorf and
Mr Klaus Otto - for the care of pensioners in need of assistance in everyday life. For example, he accompanies them to the doctor or to the shops. He also organises accommodation in care homes and dignified funerals.
Siegfried Erkner was honoured for his general commitment to the community and Uwe Waskow for his sporting achievements as a karate teacher and karate athlete.
The small ceremony began with a champagne reception and classical clarinet and piano music. The two musicians came from the Braun Music School. The honours were then presented. Mayor André Schaller and the chairman of the municipal council Ronny Neumann ceremoniously presented certificates, medals and bouquets of flowers before the honourees signed the municipality's "Golden Book". Finally, they posed for a large group photo.
The municipality would like to take this opportunity to thank them once again for their great and varied commitment, for which the above 8 were honoured as representatives.
