Visit of the children from Gomel - Chernobyl

On 25 July 2012, 25 children and their carers from Gomel - Chernobyl spent an eventful day at the Rüdersdorf Museum Park.

The children were greeted by members of the senior citizens' advisory council, helpers from the Volkssolidarität and members of the mining association. Mayor André Schaller, who presented all the children with a gift from the municipality, and the managing director of Kultur-GmbH, Mr Jörg Lehmann, also attended the welcome.

The children then went to the petting zoo and took a jeep into the open-cast mine. Another highlight was lunch from the Asian restaurant "Chau".

Senior citizens from Rüdersdorf had also knitted over 80 pairs of socks. Each child was able to choose a pair. The remaining socks were taken home for siblings and friends who had stayed at home.

As a parting gift, the mining association gave each child a small present.

Every year, children from the Belarusian region spend their holidays in Hirschluch near Storkow. The trip to the museum park is always a very special experience.

We say thank you!
