After around two years, the time has finally come: the completely refurbished Berliner Straße, forming part of the L 233 regional road in the Hennickendorf district of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin (Märkisch-Oderland), was officially opened to traffic today. At the invitation of the local authority, Mayor Nico Nolte, together with Robert Hentschel, Head of the East Construction Department at the State Roads Authority, opened the upgraded through-road in the presence of numerous local residents. The road has been open to traffic since the end of August 2026.
Modern, safe and functional: the comprehensive refurbishment of Berliner Straße has brought about a lasting improvement in traffic conditions in Hennickendorf and ensured the long-term integrity of the road infrastructure. Over a stretch of approximately three kilometres, the road was thoroughly upgraded, with carriageway widths and cross-slope optimised and the drainage system adapted. Gutters were replaced and the closed drainage system was reinstated in several sections. In addition, pavements were modernised and ancillary facilities and access roads were adapted. Furthermore, the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin has invested in three bus stops, meaning that from the 2026 timetable change, the lido, the industrial estate on Berliner Straße and CEMEX will once again be connected to a regular public transport service. The construction costs amount to around four million euros.

Robert Hentschel, Head of the East Construction Division at the State Roads Authority: “Thanks to the strong collaboration between all those involved, we were able to combine two challenging construction projects and complete them on schedule. They represent an investment in the future and ensure safe and efficient road links. At the same time, they are an investment in the quality of life of people in the region, making their daily lives easier and better.”
In parallel with the construction of the through road, the junction of the L 233 with the B 1 federal road has been upgraded and made more efficient since August 2024. A traffic-friendly link to the industrial estate was created, an additional turning lane and a footpath/cycle path were built, and numerous utility lines were re-laid. The work was completed as early as May 2026.
The redevelopment of the junction will see a further four million euros invested in transport infrastructure. Of this, the State of Brandenburg is contributing around 1.1 million euros and the Federal Republic of Germany approximately 2.9 million euros.
Final discussions are currently underway between the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin and the State Road Authority regarding an administrative agreement for the approximately 500-metre-long section of cycle path to be built to close the gap at the outskirts of Hennickendorf. The closure of this gap is planned for 2027 and is to be built by the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin and funded by the State of Brandenburg.
