The third bench of honour in the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin was inaugurated on Friday afternoon. The municipal council decided in September of this year that the bench of honour would be awarded to Volker Müller.
Müller was a member of the municipal council in Rüdersdorf near Berlin for over 34 years from 1990 until his voluntary retirement in the 2024 local elections.
As Chairman of the Committee for the Environment, Climate and Transport for many years, he was responsible for overseeing many a critical debate on the further development of the industry in the face of increasing environmental regulations and bringing it to a constructive conclusion. He was always committed to dialogue between industrial companies and the community.
Born in Dresden, he has lived in Rüdersdorf since 1972 and worked as a legal adviser at the Rüdersdorf cement works until 1991. Immediately after leaving, he was admitted to the bar and opened his own law firm.
Ronny Neumann, the long-standing chairman of the municipal council, described the honouree as someone who always managed to frame even the dullest of topics with an anecdote during committee meetings, bringing them to life.
After Renate Radoy and Wolfang Paschke, this is the third bench of honour to be awarded. The honourees decide on the location themselves. Volker Müller opted for the boules court in the museum park, where the bench was inaugurated in a pre-Christmas atmosphere with mulled wine.
