Press release 2023/09 of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin
On 25 April 2023, 5 pm, the town hall exhibition "Development in Africa - that concerns us" of the associations Deutsch-Afrikanische Zusammenarbeit e.V. (DAZ) and Information Technology Village (IT Village) in Dapaong in Togo will be opened with a vernissage in the council hall of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin (Hans-Striegelski-Straße 5, 15562 Rüdersdorf near Berlin).
The current exhibition provides an impressive account of the work of the two organisations, their goals, projects, difficulties and successes. Under the motto "It doesn't work without school", for example, projects for a better school, education and training were made possible, providing school materials and school meals or financing scholarships for trainees. Another project supports beekeepers in the savannah region as a way out of abject poverty.
The vernissage will be accompanied by music and a tasting of honey from the savannah.
Registration for participation in the vernissage at ortsleben@ruedersdorf.de
ortsleben(at)ruedersdorf.de
or by telephone on 033638 / 85-316 is requested by 18 April 2023.
After the opening, the exhibition can be viewed free of charge until 30 June 2023 during the opening hours of the town hall.
Background:
The non-profit organisation DAZ e.V. was founded back in 2002 to promote cooperation between German and African institutions and development projects. In 2006, the partner association IT Village was founded in Togo on the initiative of Yawo Etienne Dable, a refugee with a degree in engineering from Germany.
Some of the more than 120 members, all of whom are volunteers, and numerous supporters live in the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin. Mayor Sabine Löser is a member of the association and first reported on her visit to the African country and her work in the association at a town hall exhibition in summer 2016. Löser last travelled to Togo privately with members of the association in February 2023 to see for herself the successes and challenges of the work under the motto "Helping people to help themselves" in Togo's savannah.
