Invitation to brainstorm ideas for the bid to become a host town for the Special Olympics 2023

The municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin wants to become one of 170 inclusive municipalities throughout Germany as a host town. The Special Olympics World Games - the world's largest sporting event for people with intellectual or multiple disabilities - will take place in Berlin in summer 2023.
Now that the municipal council has approved the application of the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin as a host town by an overwhelming majority, initial ideas for the application are to be collected together with associations, social organisations and interested citizens . To this end, the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin is inviting all interested parties to an initial exchange of ideas on Wednesday, 15 September 2021 at 6 pm in the community centre (OT Herzfelde, Möllenstraße 12, 15378 Rüdersdorf bei Berlin) . An initial draft programme for hosting a delegation from one of the 170 participating nations will be drawn up at two themed tables. The other table will focus on finding and developing an accompanying integrative project, which the municipality must also present as part of the application.
By offering to involve associations, social organisations, stakeholders from the environment of people with disabilities as well as civil society at an early stage, a new way of broad participation is chosen, which should serve to generate fruitful ideas on the one hand and togetherness on the other.

Background:
The Special Olympics World Games will take place in Berlin in summer 2023. The aim is to promote sporting activities for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities and create opportunities for access and choice to participate in sporting activities and thus in social life.
The Host Town Programme is designed to welcome athletes from one nation to districts, cities and municipalities across Germany. The aim of the Host Town Programme "170 nations - 170 inclusive communities" is to create sustainable inclusive structures in the communities and to celebrate and live together in an open way.
The communities accommodate the athletes and their coaches immediately before the World Games, give them the opportunity to train and organise a supporting programme. The host towns are also responsible for recruiting and managing the volunteers on site in their municipality. In the spirit of inclusion, the involvement of people with (intellectual) disabilities as helpers is also desired.
The added value for the participating municipalities lies in making the topic of inclusion visible, networking with stakeholders in the field of inclusion and thus sustainably promoting inclusive structures in the municipality. The municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin already has established structures (cooperation between the administration and Midria e.V.; Ruderverein Kalkberge e.V. with the competence centre "Rudern mit Behinderung", local association of Lebenshilfe Rüdersdorf e.V. "Wiesenzirkus Bunterhund"; Stephanus-Stiftung Marienhaus etc.), but these can still be expanded.
