Press release 2022/41 of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin
The results of the survey on child and youth participation in the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin are available. To implement Section 18a of the Brandenburg municipal constitution, the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin conducted a survey among children and young people between June and October 2022. The aim was to find out which topics are particularly close to their hearts and how they would prefer to be involved.
The results show that children and young people do not want a fixed format such as a youth parliament, but rather want to be invited and involved on a project and event-related basis. No clear preference emerged on the question of whether participation should take place purely digitally or in face-to-face formats, which means that this will depend on the issue at hand.
The main areas of interest are leisure activities, environmental policy, town planning, school matters and bus, rail and cycling.
The children and young people were able to take part in the survey via an online survey as well as an analogue questionnaire. The social worker was also on site in the school playgrounds and filled out the questionnaires together with the children.
In consultation with the members of the municipal council, the results will now be analysed and the next steps towards good child and youth participation will be initiated.
One of the plans is to create a "contact point for children and youth issues" as a voluntary activity - it is to be a point of contact, mediation and interface between children and young people, the employees of the administration and the members of the municipal council. Contact persons
In total, around 18% of children and young people in the municipality aged between 8 and 18 took part in the survey.
