All driving licences issued between 2002 and 2004 must be renewed by 19 January 2027 at the latest.
The year of issue shown in field 4a on the card driving licence is decisive.
The Road Traffic Authority is asking everyone affected to apply for the renewal now, rather than waiting until just before the deadline. In the Märkisch-Oderland district, around 13,000 driving licences will need to be renewed each year over the next few years.
If too many applications are received at the same time, it is inevitable that there will be bottlenecks.
The replacement applies only to the document. You do not need to take a new driving test.
