Press Release 2026/21

Brandenburg’s Summer Reading Programme gets underway

The Friedrich-Wilhelm-von-Reden Library is once again inviting children to take part in the Brandenburg Summer Reading Scheme this year. From 29 June to 28 August 2026, all primary school children from Rüdersdorf near Berlin are invited to take part in this state-wide initiative to promote reading.

Registration will be open at the library from 29 June 2026. Once registered, participants will receive an adventure booklet, which they can creatively bring to life based on the books. The prizes will not be awarded to the children who have read the most books, but to those with the most creative adventure booklets. This year, too, there is a wide range of new and exclusive summer reading books to choose from.

Anyone who reads at least two books during the Summer of Reading will receive an invitation to the closing event on 12 June 2026 in Rüdersdorf’s market square. The awards ceremony will take place there, and certificates will be presented.

Registration is possible with the consent of a parent or guardian. Registration forms are available at the library and can also be downloaded from the Friedrich-Wilhelm-von-Reden Library website (bibliothek-ruedersdorf.de). Summer reading books can be borrowed from both the main library (Straße der Jugend 32, 15562 Rüdersdorf near Berlin) and the Hennickendorf branch (Hennickendorf district, Bahnhofstraße 39, 15378 Rüdersdorf near Berlin).

The Brandenburg Summer of Reading is an initiative run by the public libraries of the State of Brandenburg to promote reading skills and a love of reading. The project was launched by the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the Brandenburg State Office for Archives and Public Libraries.
