At the end of yesterday's meeting, Mayor Sabine Löser informed the members of the municipal council about her application to be dismissed from her position as a temporary civil servant on 1 January 2026 and to resign from the office of mayor for personal - health and family - reasons. She then submitted the written application to the Chair. She asked for a decision on this at the next regular meeting of the municipal council on 22 July 2025.
Mayor Löser makes the following personal statement on the decision:
"On 19 June 2025, I asked my superior, Sven Templin, head of the municipal council, to retire on 31 December 2025 for personal (health and family) reasons.
For six unexpectedly difficult years, I represented the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin in public. I always did this with all my strength and skills, with passion and commitment. My family supported me and put aside all demands on their daughter, mother, grandmother and wife - and are prepared to continue doing so. I am very grateful for that.
My aspiration for myself and my work is to be a role model, show presence and deliver quality. I am now 66 years old and am increasingly reaching the limits of my health. I lack the necessary resilience.
I feel that I am increasingly no longer able to live up to my own expectations: I don't want to be a mayor who is no longer always present and leading by example.
I am convinced that my successor will be able to take on this honourable office successfully and with fresh energy. We have enough potential for this in our municipality. I would like to give them this opportunity and am therefore stepping down as mayor at the end of the year at my own request.
I will, of course, remain active in the community's social and community life."
The municipal supervisory authority was informed of the decision on 20 June 2025 and must now set an election date. Information on all further procedural steps will be provided separately.
