The demolition of the former NP supermarket in Brückenstraße has been completed, marking another milestone in the development of the residential neighbourhood. The former department store, which had been vacant for a long time and was increasingly falling into disrepair, had been an eyesore and source of danger for years. After long negotiations, the land and the hall were transferred to the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin, enabling one of the central measures in the Socially Integrative City funding programme to be implemented and the market to be demolished.
The open space created creates urban space and new visual links to the neighbouring grammar school. Now that all contaminated sites have been removed, a flowering meadow has been sown on the area. The construction fence around the area will remain in place until mid-October 2024 to allow it to develop.
The next step will be to restore the road connection as a second escape route for the apartment blocks behind. The tender for this is currently being prepared. It has not yet been decided how the entire area will be used in future. To this end, ideas are currently being developed and the real needs of the neighbourhood are being weighed up, also with local residents.
