During the participation process for the design of the play and exercise area, residents expressed the desire to examine the impact of traffic on quality of life, such as safety, noise and air pollution, to see if there was room for improvement. The municipality of Rüdersdorf took up this suggestion and in spring 2015 commissioned StaadtPlan Ingenieur GmbH from Potsdam to carry out a comprehensive study on a wide range of traffic-related issues.
On the basis of the integrated development concept for the Socially Integrative City programme, for example, the traffic routing for motorised traffic in the residential area, which is organised in one-way traffic throughout, was examined for opportunities to reorganise the development system with the aim of reducing driving speeds and mileage and increasing traffic safety. It also emerged that, contrary to the perception of some residents, there are sufficient car parking spaces in the residential area. However, they are often not designated in the right places and are underutilised. In addition, proposals for accessing the residential area from the south via Woltersdorfer Straße were examined. Measures to improve the pedestrian connection of the residential area to the town centre of the municipality and to redesign the development of residential courtyards are also part of the study.
The initial results were presented to the municipal representatives and homeowners from autumn 2015 and compared with their ideas for the development of the area. They are thus geared towards the long-term development goals for the residential area, for example the design of a central neighbourhood square with a high quality of stay and the strengthening of Brückenstraße as an educational location.
Together with the specialist planners, the municipality would like to present the available study results to the public and invites all interested parties to an information event on Wednesday, 9 March 2016 in the day care centre for senior citizens at Pflege-Brücke, Brückenstraße 103, in the presence of Mayor André Schaller. The event starts at 5.30 pm. Current information on the Socially Integrative City programme can also be found at www.zukunft-brücke.de.
