Rüdersdorf history
The earliest documentary references to Lichtenow date back to the years 1320 to 1323. The historical village structure corresponds to a Slavic roundabout. The oldest building is the church, which was erected in 1499 on the remains of a previous building. The oldest residential building, a double parlour house made of fieldstone, is also located nearby. The church and the entire village centre have been renovated since the turn of the millennium.
With the construction of the Berlin - Müncheberg - Frankfurt (Oder) motorway in 1802, a new district gradually emerged to the south of the village, which was named "Lichtenow Lamm" after the "Zum goldenen Lamm" roadside inn built in 1750. The population in Lichtenow also grew with the development of industry and the increased extraction of lime and clay deposits in Rüdersdorf and Herzfelde.
In 1910, a brickworks with a ring kiln was built on today's B 1, which had a railway siding to Herzfelde. The brickworks was in operation until 1956, after which it fell into disrepair. The building was secured in 2009 and is now a roost for various species of bats, some of which are endangered.
Lichtenow was characterised by agriculture for centuries. In the course of the land reform in 1949, twelve so-called new farmhouses were built in Siedlerstraße, which are still inhabited today, but have since been adapted to the current standard of living. Around twelve hectares are used for weekend recreation.
Lichtenow is located on the R1 European cycle path and is also connected to its neighbouring communities by cycle paths.
15th question: The R1 European Cycle Route ends in St. Petersburg (Russia) after more than 3500 kilometres, but in which country does it begin?
