Waste disposal

Press release LK MOL 21/2024 - Plastic leaf bags can still be used until the end of 2024

Since autumn 2023, the Märkisch-Oderland waste management company (EMO) has been switching from plastic to kraft paper bags for green waste disposal. As a result, only the new kraft paper bags have been available at sales outlets since autumn 2023. However, the orange-coloured plastic leaf bags from the Märkisch-Oderland waste disposal company can still be used. Until the end of 2024, both the new kraft paper bags and the plastic bags will be collected by the contracted waste disposal company for the green waste tours in order to use up remaining stocks of purchased (plastic) green waste bags. From 2025, however, only green waste in kraft paper bags will be collected as part of the green waste collection programme. Therefore, please use up any plastic bags you still have by the end of this year!

The switch from plastic to kraft paper bags fulfils the requirements of the European strategy to avoid plastic waste. The new bags can now be composted directly with the green waste without leaving any residue. This not only ensures a higher quality of the compost produced, but also eliminates the need to dispose of the plastic bags, which was usually done by burning them.
