High-profile visit to the grammar school

Minister President Woidke and the Ambassador of the French Republic, Mr Gourdault-Montagne, visited our secondary school on 13 January 2014. We see this visit as an appreciation of our commitment to Franco-German friendship and our endeavours to set new standards by offering the Franco-German double qualification, the AbiBac, as the only school in the state of Brandenburg to do so.

Our guests used the visit to get to know each other and, after a tour of the school, learnt about the Abibac in an in-depth discussion with students from years 8-11. This special educational programme provides students with excellent language skills, opens up good opportunities for university education in Germany and France and promotes their intercultural skills. In conversation with the guests, the pupils were open-minded. They talked about their school location in Rüdersdorf and its history, about their school and their personal development at our institution and outlined their concerns and problems. The presentations were given in both German and French, which impressed our guests very much.

Finally, the Prime Minister and the ambassador signed our school's book of honour and received calendars with views of Märkisch-Oderland, which Year 7 pupils had made in art lessons, as a gift.
In addition to the aforementioned guests, the district administrator of the Märkisch-Oderland district, Gernot Schmidt, Dr Rita Nachtigall and Dr Salzwedel, who are members of the district council, took part in the discussion. Rita Nachtigall and Uwe Salzwedel as members of the district council, the subject teachers for bilingual geography and history, Kerstin Werner and Dagmar Krüger, the coordinating teacher for AbiBac and subject teacher for French, Katharina Hoepner, as well as the head teacher, Gabriele Schölzel, and her deputy, Jens Sonnenberg.
