Opening of the photo exhibition "Species protection in Rüdersdorf. Insects & amphibians" on 28.01.2020

On Tuesday, 28 January 2020 at 17:00, the photo exhibition "Artenschutz in Rüdersdorf. Insects & Amphibians" will open in the town hall of the municipality of Rüdersdorf. We cordially invite you to the town hall.

This informative photo exhibition is an initiative of the Rüdersdorf Environmental Working Group. The non-profit organisation RUAK e.V. has been committed to helping people and nature in our community in a variety of ways for 30 years.

The exhibition focusses on portraits of those species that, along with countless others, are increasingly under threat in our intensively used landscapes: Insects and amphibians. If you immerse yourself in their world and perceive them in all their fascinating, otherwise barely visible details and peculiarities, you realise how complex and beautiful these systems, which often seem so banal and self-evident, must be. How fundamental they are to our lives.

Dramatic losses worldwide make it clear that action is needed. Because what makes this DYING so special and, from a scientific point of view, so threatening is its enormous speed, which we humans have accelerated many times over.

We want to inform, raise awareness and highlight opportunities for action. This is why our exhibition is explicitly aimed at private individuals as well as companies and other local stakeholders.

In addition to the pictures, most of which were taken in Rüdersdorf, visitors can look forward to a photo documentation of a flowering meadow for wild bees that was deliberately planted in a cemetery in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and from which many other species also benefit. Here it becomes clear what diversity and beauty can be restored in the course of just one summer if certain areas are spared during mowing.

Our wish is that such "wild corners", where we give nature more space, set a precedent. In gardens and parks, in cemeteries, on company premises and, of course, on agricultural land, to serve as retreats for all those who find less and less suitable space to live.
