Katherina Reiche, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment(BMU), visited IKW Rüdersdorf on 15 March 2012 to get an idea of one of the most modern waste incineration plants in Germany and the possibilities of climate-friendly energy use together with the mayor of the municipality, André Schaller.
"Waste management makes a significant contribution to the fulfilment of our climate protection goals. Further potential savings are possible, for example by improving energy efficiency. We want to work on this together with the companies," emphasised Katherina Reiche.
Mayor Schaller was delighted that the BMU and Vattenfall were able to visit the site together and discuss important regional energy issues in detail: "I am pleased that we were able to discuss the various opportunities available here at the site together with Ms Reiche as a representative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment."
André Bandilla, Managing Director of Vattenfall Europe New Energy GmbH, emphasised: "Our cooperation with the municipality of Rüdersdorf is already very good. With a view to a sustainable energy supply, we are looking into further cooperation with the municipality of Rüdersdorf to utilise the energy generated from the recycling of waste."
