Open Wall - 175 metre long public graffiti wall opens

The Open Wall - the first public graffiti wall in the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin (OT Hennickendorf, Rehfelder Straße 22A, 15378 Rüdersdorf bei Berlin) - will be opened on 15 August 2025 at 10 am in the Hennickendorf district. The approximately 175 metre long wall along the biocomposting plant of Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) can be used by graffiti artists at any time from the opening day. It consists of newly placed concrete elements that border the facility along Klosterdorfer Straße - between the cycle path upgraded by BSR and BSR's Hennickendorf biocomposting plant.

As part of the modernisation of the Hennickendorf organic composting facility, BSR has replaced the previous earth walls and fences with stable concrete elements. These not only offer protection from wild animals, but also provide a modern and secure boundary around the facility. The municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin approached BSR with the idea of using the new wall as a legal graffiti area. Now that the necessary safety work on the wall has been completed, both partners are delighted to be jointly realising a project that is unique in Brandenburg.

Mayor Sabin Löser is delighted with the upcoming opening:

"In recent years, I have repeatedly been asked for legal graffiti walls in our community. I am all the more pleased that we can now open the Open Wall Hennickendorf. This unique space offers enough room to try things out, create new works of art all the time and bring the wall to life. May the Open Wall not only become a focal point for artists, but also for guests interested in art."

Dennis Wenzlaff, Head of the Biological Waste Treatment Department at BSR, explains the company's motivation for taking part in the project:

"BSR feels closely connected to the district of Hennickendorf and the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin. We not only operate a biocomposting plant here, but also invest in the future of Hennickendorf. For us, this also includes the further development of the surrounding area, for example with the upgrading of the neighbouring cycle path and now also with the graffiti wall. We are delighted to be able to offer a local leisure and creative programme."

Large signs mark the legal area of the wall and provide information about the Open Wall's code of conduct: in principle, anyone can be creative on the wall - without having to register. The BSR will take over the maintenance of the area in future. The municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin has also installed two gabion benches at the site.

For the opening ceremony, the wall will be initially designed by local graffiti artist Felix Seeliger-Büssow (alias Fix77) together with other artists.

You are cordially invited to attend the public inauguration and marvel at the first works of art that will be created from this day onwards.
